part #17311-506-000 The drip tray stay

In the parts book this part is shown in a different configuration consisting of two wedge shaped stampings welded together, my thought is that the drip stay stay was cost engineered and became two L brackets welded together, giving them less structural support, and creating a point at the base that is very prone to stress cracking from the vibration of the engine, amplified throught the drip tray, and manifested at the convergence of the L brackets.
